The Academy Climbing Scheme has been designed to teach young climbers aged between 7 and 17 the skills required to become independent safe climbers. Our course has been split into 5 distinct modules, each requiring a minimum time to achieve the required skills to advance to the next level.

The course is designed based on an individual having no prior knowledge of climbing, and so everyone would start at ‘Beginner’. However, those
individuals who have some previous climbing experience can take individual assessments and advance through the course more quickly.

It’s not a race to finish the course. Each visit should build on your previous knowledge and skill set and every week you should learn something new and add more climbs to this logbook.

As you advance through the scheme, you are expected to visit the centre outside of your instructed sessions. This is the start of your journey to become independent climbers.

There are 5 levels to complete in total. You will be assessed at the end of each level to make sure you are ready to move up to the next one. As you progress up the levels you will move through the more complex aspects of climbing, including lead climbing. The levels in our syllabus are:

Beginner Climber
Intermediate Climber
Technical Skills
Virtual Lead Climber
Lead Climber

Our sessions run every Saturday and Sunday from 10.15am to 11.45am and 12.00pm to 1.30pm with our highest level running on a weeknight evening,

Our Academy sessions are separated into ability levels and have a maximum of 6 kids per group to ensure as much progress as possible.

Our Academy programme enables each climber the chance to learn every aspect of climbing, from tying a simple knot, to belaying with various devices, bottom rope and lead climbing, to abseiling and technique.

It’s a great way for kids to make friends with other like minded people and keep fit and healthy.
